Padel, Pedals & IT: Welcome to Bits & Bytes

29/09/2026

Introducing Bits and Bytes

Welcome to "Bits and Bytes." This is where I write about the personal side of life around Bolton and Westhoughton, alongside the practical tech side of the job. In short, "Bits" is the life stuff, and "Bytes" is the IT stuff.

The "Bits": Padel and Football in Bolton

Padel has really taken off, and it is easy to see why. It is social, fast, a bit addictive, and a lot more fun than pretending you enjoy another treadmill session. I play locally, so there is a fair chance you might spot me on court around Bolton or Westhoughton.

Football still matters round here too. It is part of the local rhythm, and I like the straightforward side of it: turn up, work together, and stay consistent.

The "Bytes": Zwift, Tech, and the Useful Stuff

I am also into cycling, and Zwift is brilliant when your setup behaves and deeply annoying when it does not. If you want it to run smoothly, the basics matter: a decent PC, solid Wi-Fi, and preferably an SSD rather than an old machine clinging on for dear life. A lot of apparent Zwift problems actually turn out to be network problems: weak Wi-Fi, dead zones or an unreliable connection. If that sounds familiar, my network troubleshooting and installation and home support sections cover the sort of help I offer.

What to Expect from Bits and Bytes

Future Bits and Bytes articles will alternate between local life and short practical IT posts. Some will be about sport, cycling, and everyday things around Bolton and Westhoughton. Others will be quick, useful posts about the sort of tech problems I help people with every day.
